Scorsese wins Golden Globe: Best Director

Awesome stuff: Martin Scorsese scored his second Golden Globe Award, Best Director for "The Departed". Looks like he may finally bring home the Oscar. The sixth try may be the charm.

Yes, I love Scorsese. Sue me.

TDG's First Ever Blog-In Theater Presents : Godzilla, King of the Monsters

Welcome to our first ever Blog-In theater.

Thanks to the treasure trove of public domain movies I have found on Video.Google, I am going to make it a point for us to have a saturday matinées at the blog.

This is similar to what I have started at culturekitchen. Over there though, I can run a chat (you need to be a member to participate). Over here what we can do is do a "live-commenting" event Sunday afternoon ... OR ... if you are on AIM, we can do a chat using that and then posting the results on the site.

Back to the movie.

This is the original eco-terrorist and nuclear mutant-freak Godzilla; not the saviour of Japan reinvented in the 1960s. It has a very young Raymond Burr as, Steve Martin (the irony!) the American documentarian of this iguanadonian catastrophe. It oozes post-WW2 cheeziness through each reel hole.

101st Fighting Keyboarders - The Movie

Via DailyKos comes this hilarious mockumentary on those lice of the internets, rightie bloggers, also known as the 101st Fighting Keyboarders.

You really do have to wonder what keeps these guys - and with a few notable exceptions, such as Michelle Maglalang Malkin, the illegal immigrant anchor baby, they are all guys - tethered to their keyboards when there's a real war to be fought. Perhaps it's just their love of Cheetos; perhaps it's because they're lily-livered cowards who would run away from a real fight.

But do check out the movie, sure to spark howls, or maybe merely sputterings, of outrage across the wingersphere.

Poll

Only in New York

Fossella [is] anything but the independent fighter for constituents that he claims to be in this campaign. He has been a real water-carrier for the Bush administration and the Republican leadership, staunchly backing the war in Iraq while at the same time denying health benefits to National Guard and Reserve members who make up much of the American force there.

The congressman...has been unsympathetic to environmental concerns and has opposed a woman’s right to choose. He does his constituents no favors by his support for privatizing Social Security. He has voted to protect gun makers and sellers. While Mr. Fossella has lately sought funding to deal with health problems related to to the attacks of Sept. 11, he has largely been missing on important local issues. His Democratic colleague, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who represents the Sixth District, has often been left to advocate Staten Island’s many transportation needs, including the North Shore rail.

Mr. Fossella has offered only lame excuses for improperly using his campaign funds for skiing holidays in Vail (including lessons and equipment), as well as vacations in Florida — transgressions first reported by the Daily News. He has received donations from a lobbying firm with ties to Jack Abramoff. Earlier this year, he was fined a reported $60,000 for misusing his taxpayer-funded official mailing privileges.
