Lambda Independent Democrats: Just say "No" to Ratner and Noach Dear

Here is the latest from Lambda Independent Democrats:

Thumbs Down on Atlantic Yards, Noach Dear

At its meeting held October 22, 2007, Lambda Independent Democrats, Brooklyn's LGBT Political voice adopted a resolution opposing the Atlantic Yards Project of the Forest City Ratner Development Company.

The club also contined to express it's disappointment in the Brooklyn Democratic party's support for Noach Dear. LID co-President Chrisopher Murray said "Brooklyn's LGBT community and the thousands of LGBT Democrats we represent feel that Noach Dear's lack of courtroom experience and bar associations' assessments and his past statements and actions against the interests of our community deem him an unsuitable candidate for the Civil Court bench. We continue to be disappointed in the leadership of the Democratic party of Brooklyn over their support of his candidacy."

Here is the resolution Lambda adopted opposing Bruce Ratner's overdevelopment of Brooklyn:

Resolution Item: Atlantic Yards. Date Voted: 10/22/07

The Club adopted a resolution opposing the Atlantic Yards Project of the Forest City Ratner Development Company at our October 22, 2007 meeting.

Whereas the Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn (LID) support the following development guidelines:

1. Major development projects should go through a stringent, inclusive community review process.

2. The dispensing of all public property should be done to maximize the financial health of the government agency.

3. Eminent domain or the threat of eminent domain should be used sparingly, if ever, and should not be used for a project whose "civic" nature is unclear while also enriching a private developer.

4. RFPs should be issued at the beginning of a disposal process.

5. Private developers should not benefit from special allowances and tax breaks promulgated for their advantage.

6. All projects in The City of New York should comply with both the letter and spirit of NYC's Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) and not destroy the character and scale of affected neighborhoods.

7. Environmental rules should be strictly adhered to and enforced.

Therefore, let it be understood that the position of LID is that failure on any one of these grounds would be sufficient for this club to reject any project and, as the Forest City Ratner (FCR) proposal does not adequately address the above-referenced issues or fails said issues, LID rejects and opposes the FCR Atlantic Yards proposal.

And for those who want to know about what Lambda has to say about Noach Dear, they were so incensed at the acceptance by Brooklyn's "Democratic" machine of this homophobic, unqualified hack as a judge that they issued a clear, public warning to all Democrats who endorsed him that Lambda will hold them accountable for their endorsement. The politicians Lambda has put on notice are the following:

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz
Democratic County Leader and Assemblyman Vito Lopez
Assemblyman Dov Hikind
Councilmember Vincent Gentile
Councilmember Dominic Recchia
Councilmember Kendall Stewart
State Senator Diane Savino

And Lambda's warning:

And we will remember those who shamelessly supported him.

Finally, Lambda's fall fundrasier will be held on Sunday, November 18th (details to follow on Lambda's site)

“These guys just don’t know when to quit. The Senate Republicans holding an ethics hearing is like O.J. searching for the real killer. Senate Republicans should end the partisan theatrics and join the Governor in getting back to work on the real issues that matter to working families. Let’s end the show trial, leave the investigating to the investigators, and get back to work.”

— Jonathan Rosen for the New York State Democratic Committee
