Wednesday's Moveon.Org's "We Can't Afford to Wait" Vigil for Healthcare Reform in Manhattan

This comes from MoveOn.org:

We Can't Afford to Wait Vigil

Columbus Circle, Columbus Circle
New York, NY 10023
Wednesday, September 2nd, 7:00 PM

Let's keep the momentum going!

Residents of all five boroughs of New York City are gathering to share their own experiences with the current health care system, and to urge Congress to enact real reform this year, which includes a public option.

I am missing Yvette Clarke's town hall meeting because I am working from home to try and finish some analysis for a grant deadline tomorrow. But I will try to make this rally on Wednesday. We need a good turnout to show our support for Healthcare reform.

Re: Wednesday's Moveon.Org's "We Can't Afford to Wait" ...

Yvette's Town Hall was excellent. The room was packed with folks from all over the district, maybe 300 or more? (hard to estimate from where I was sitting), and 99+% vigorously pro-reform. Rep. Clarke wisely took audience questions written out on cards. It helped keep repetition to a minimum, but of course it didn't stop about 5-6 people from being rude. And, surprise! all of them were opposed to health care reform.

But most of the meeting was mannerly, informative, and the audience was very much in support of Rep. Clarke. Others on the podium at various points included Rennie Bishop (aka "The Voice of God"), program director of WWRL, who moderated, Devorah Halberstam, director of the Brooklyn Jewish Childrens' Museum where the event was held, who gave Clarke a rousing intro, John Liu, Eric Adams, and Anthony Weiner, all of whom spoke with varying degrees of brevity, and Una Clarke, who did not speak. In fact, the room, and the podium, were so crowded that at one point I saw Tish James come in one side door, then the other, and finally she gave up. It would have been physically impossible for her to reach the podium, I guess.
