Score one for New York’s Attorney General Andrew Cuomo

Senator Chuck Schumer loves to hold press conferences on Sundays, whereby he gets decent coverage in near all local newspapers the next day; it has been an effective media strategy. It sure helped him get to the US Senate. The question however is this: after the press leaves are the issues raised eventually resolved? What about the follow-up? Maybe a media outlet would apply some of its resources into researching Schumer’s success rate. And there is a reason why I say this.

I have lived in New York for the past 35 years, and it seems to me that every year or two, some politician, news outlet, university or think-tank, comes up with some study showing how blacks and Hispanics get screwed by mortgage brokers, real estate folks, insurers or banks. No kidding. And I recall Senator Schumer holding quite a few of his Sunday press conferences, to highlight this and other ancillary problems over the years.

Then yesterday it was announced that New York’s Attorney General Andrew Cuomo had secured nine hundred thousand dollars in restitution, for 270 black and Hispanic homeowners, who were ripped off by higher charges, fees (some hidden) and rates, by Green Point Brokers -a subsidiary of Capital One Financial Corp.

Cuomo claims to have used information developed through the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, in order to bring Green Point to the bargaining table. He says to expect more developments in this area. It is expected that Cuomo will go after other companies who practice this type of racial discrimination on a daily basis. Score one for Andrew Cuomo. This is long overdue.

Stay tuned-in folks.

Andrew Cuomo is a bully who

Andrew Cuomo is a bully who pushes people around behind closed doors. Recently he's been accused of harassing and attacking a woman Denise who refused to chase him and compete for his personal attention. He's a misogynist who interfered with her business for not going along with his big ego. He secretly destroyed her credit card identity theft a case being investigated by Paul Arroyo of Precinct 28. He blocked her Attorney Alfonso DeCicco from advising her about apt rental and then she lost her home. He pressured her HMO doctor Elizabeth Uchitelle so much about a small reimbursement, it helped the doctor decide to close her office leaving my friend Denise in the cold. Denise has copies of the papers, voice mails and emails to prove it. Cuomo thinks he is above the law and ruins others lives for personal satisfaction. I urge this woman to come forward and tell the press about the New York State Attorney General and how corrupt he is behind the public's back.

Poll

Only in New York

Brooklyn assemblyman Vito Lopez, who is pushing hard to win the county's Democratic Party leadership post made vacant by the conviction of his former assembly colleague, Clarence Norman, Jr., has something else in common with Norman: Both men used political campaign committees to pay for their personal cars, and then accepted mileage reimbursement from the legislature - a legal no-no according to Brooklyn District Attorney Charles "Joe" Hynes who won indictments against Norman for that very offense.

State election board filings show that since 1999 the Bushwick pol's campaign committee, "Friends of Vito Lopez," has routinely shelled out $500 a month in leasing costs for his Acura sports car, and another $2800 a year for his auto insurance costs. It also pays more than $200 a month for a luxury dashboard computer service. In addition, the committee picks up a monthly American Express bill for the assemblyman, a tab that runs from $400 to $8,000 a month.
