I am going on record as saying that my favorite NY newspaper is The Daily News [1]. I read it I've never been too keen on Michael Goodwin. I am more of a EC Schipp kind of gal; although I also enjoy Michael Daly, Juan Gonzalez, Stanley Crouch, Errol Louis along with ... gasp! ... Gatecrasher. I mean, who doesn't love their gossip, right?
So Bob Fertik's email about boycotting New York City's newspaper of record came as a surprise. Here's what I got from Democrats.com [2] :
New York Daily News columnist Michael Goodwin viciously attacked all progressive New Yorkers in his 11/7/07 column entitled "Chuck bucks the loony left [3]."
Goodwin wrote: "With rabid lefties calling for a protest outside his Brooklyn home and with costumed demonstrators holding up signs behind him in Washington saying things like "united we torture," Schumer earned his title as New York's senior senator. By saving Mukasey's nomination in the 11-to-8 Judiciary Committee vote, Schumer and the only other Democrat to join nine Republicans, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), also saved their party from the clutches of the fanatical fringe...
An e-mail sent by a group called Democrats.com urged a protest outside his house and accused him of "abandoning his own party and angering many of his constituents." It also claimed, falsely, that "Mukasey also stated his belief that President Bush has the right to ignore laws passed by Congress in his capacity of commander in chief, thus showing that he would continue the drift toward authoritarian rule which has become a hallmark of the Bush administration."
Such ridiculous blather has become par for the left wing, which won't be satisfied until the government grinds to a halt. Then they'll blame that on Bush, too. But for at least one day, Democratic grownups intervened to do the right thing for the country."
Please join our boycott of the New York Daily News and its advertisers until Michael Goodwin apologizes for this outrageous attack on progressive New Yorkers - or is fired.

I don't consider myself as part of the "loony fringe". There's a lot about the politics of both the left and right that I find rather repugnant.
But nothing has disgusted me as the "performance of politics" choreographed by Democrats like Schumer. Quite frankly, this is not the first time I have seen it happen with him. It's 'deja vu all over again'.
Chuck Schumer has sold out to torture just as he sold himself out to the misogynist right when he voted to nominate John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Didn't Schumer regret putting Alito on the bench? [6]
What is his excuse this time? That when Hilary wins she's going to get rid of "waterboarding is not torture" Mukasey?
What if she can't?
What if it is Giuliani who gets to sit on that Oval Office?
If that is the kind of political gambling we are seeing unfold, my blog, it's time for Chuck to take a stroll down primary lane.
Maybe that'll scare him into sobering from his gambling addiction.
