I am having to reduce my blogging as I am getting ready for an important scientific conference at the end of this month. But, given my frequent criticisms of my new Congresswoman, Yvette Clarke, I feel it is important for me to comment on something great she's done.
Yvette Clarke has become the fifth member of Congress to sign on to H. Res 333 [1], Dennis Kucinich's bill to impeach Dick Cheney.
Now I am not a huge fan of Kucinich, but he certainly doesn't hesitate to take a controversial stand. Clarke is someone who I was viewing as not being willing to take much of a controversial stand unless Murtha and Weiner wanted her to. Perhaps I was wrong.
I was a latecomer to urging impeachment, though I became firmly convinced, at least in the case of Bush, back in February [2]. I think putting impeachment on the table for debate will force a discussion on the illegalities that the Bush administration has perpetrated, and hence is a necessary thing for Congress to do. Kucinich has taken the first step, and now Yvette has joined him.
From Atlanta Progressive News [3]:
"H.Res. 333 was introduced to the House of Representatives by Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio on April 24, 2007, and asserts that the vice president manipulated intelligence to make the case for going to war with Iraq, falsified a connection between Iraq and al-Qaeda, and has threatened aggression against Iran," US Rep. Clarke says...
Other Congress Critter who have signed on to HR 333 are Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), William Lacy Clay (D-MO), and Albert Wynn (D-MD).
According to Wynn:
"Vice President Dick Cheney is the architect of the Administration's deception about the war. Cheney persistently and deliberately deceived the Congress and the American people about the existence of Weapons of Mass Destruction and the alleged link between Saddam Hussein and the attack on September 11th. There should be a serious dialogue about the conduct of this Administration. Cheney should be held accountable for purposely misleading the American people. Despite the obvious lack of success on the ground, Vice President Cheney continued a barrage of propaganda claiming that we were winning the war and successfully rebuilding Iraq which is patently false. His statements and representations about the situation in Iraq amount to malfeasance for which he should be taken to task," said Wynn in a press release prepared for Atlanta Progressive News.
Please contact your Congress Critter [4] and urge them to join Kucinich and Clarke in calling for impeachment of Cheney. And write the media expressing your opinion on HR 333 [5].
Hmmm...HR 333...somehow I like that name...
