Let it fry

I just posted a rant about the government's use of "the weather" to clear themselves of any responsability over at culturekitchen [1]. My pet peeve? The refusal to link the freakishly hot and stormy weather to any environmental upheavals caused by the last hurricane season, including Hurricane Katrina.

I mean, if Puerto Rican's and countries all across the Caribbean have created preparedness plans for not just the before and during of a hurricane but particularly the environmental upheavals that come after it, why can't U.S. Americans? Do y'all really believe the U.S. is above any laws of nature?

What is most outrageous about this is that to this day, New York has no weather preparedness plans in place. None whatsoever. Hence the Queens power-outage fiasco.

Who is to blame? I am going to take it all the way back to Rudy Giuliani and cover Bloomberg as well. We've had 16 years of Republicans who've never given a shit about the environment; who believe it is statistically OK for people to suffer and die due to weather related catastrophes --including a power outage.

Republicans consider the death of people during storms, heatwaves and power outages a statistical nuissance. Homicidal neglect is intrinsic to the way Republicans believe government should do business. Because it is, after all, about doing business and not about serving and protecting the interests of citizens.

That's what a Republican government is all about. Treating homicidal neglect as a statistical necessity.
