Williamsburg against Generica- McDonalds, Starbucks, Subway...

McDonalds is said to have bought the Salvation Army building on N7 and Bedford. Starbucks is supposedly hoping to open on the South Side at broadway and Subway Sandwiches has a banner on Bedford larger than the towers that are headed our way.

MsDonalds is bad because it serves factory farmed crap, tears up the envorinment and wreaks of the unoriginalty of cold cookie cutter consumer culture that the N side has been able to escape with its warm little businesses and community feel. Starbucks poses the same threat plus it signifies to longstanding minority residents and artists of the South Side that prices are continuing to go up and to make way for homogeny (ie- find a new home) Subway, well, check the Subway section of the Williamsburg Warrior website, it was the first to arrive...and it probably should have been fought.

There are towns out west that have achieved variances to keep chains out but apparently in our town these big box birthers have some sort of "as of right" right to move in. Aren't we supposed to be one of the most progressive spots on the east coast? Dont we have some sort of responsibility to our fellow countrywomen to block this take over? If we want them to go then we are going to have to let them know that they arent going to make any money here- and well, we're gonna have to have a lot of people telling them NO!

So what shall we do Warriors? A petition to the owners of these outlandish operations? A march to their corperate headquarters? An egg toss competition near their windows?
