David Galarza (38th District Candidate) on Bloomberg's Firing of 7000 City Workers
As Bloomberg and the City Council refuse to make wealthy New Yorkers pay their share and prepare to lay off 7,000 city workers, I can only imagine how city services are going to suffer. This is the statement made by city council candidate David Galarza on Bloomgberg's proposed cuts:

Brooklyn, NY — April 10, 2009 — At a time when most City public sector workers are already doing more with less, if Mayor Bloomberg thinks laying off 7,000 workers in this economy is a good idea then he truly is out of touch with the people of New York City.
The Mayor is playing politics with the lives of workers and the professional and essential services these workers provide to millions of New Yorkers. As a Council Member, I will always fight to make sure workers are not turned into scapegoats for failed economic policies enacted by misguided politicians. read more »
Chinese and Hispanic Community Activists to Councilmember Sara Gonzalez: "Does she think we are all fools?"
Chinese and Hispanic residents of Sunset Park do nto seem happy with Council Member Sara Gonzalez's justification for her rezoning plan of Sunset Park...or her support of developers who have contributed thousands of dollars to her campaign. From David Galarza's campaign:
CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE DAVID GALARZA, CHINESE AND LATINO LEADERS AND RESIDENTS DENOUNCE STATEMENTS MADE BY COUNCIL MEMBER GONZALEZ
Brooklyn, NY — March 23, 2009 — David Galarza, City Council candidate for the 38th district, was joined today by leaders and residents of the local Latino and Chinese community in denouncing misleading comments recently made by Council Member Sara Gonzalez about affordable housing in the district and the rezoning of Sunset Park. read more »
David Galarza for City Council (38th District) Fundraising Numbers
Another person I know running for City Council had a good first few weeks of fundraising. Better than the numbers I hear from Rock's campaign (LOL!). This comes from David Galarza's Campaign:
Brooklyn, NY — March 17, 2009 — David Galarza For A New Day, the campaign committee for David Galarza, candidate in the race for Brooklyn’s 38th City Council District (encompassing sections of Sunset Park, Red Hook, Windsor Terrace and South Slope), announced today that it raised approximately $20,000 in the most recent Campaign Finance Board filing period ending March 11, 2009.
With the addition of anticipated matching funds, the campaign will have raised nearly $100,000 in its first complete filing period of campaigning.
“As a grassroots people-driven campaign, I am humbled by the financial support we’ve received from New Yorkers from all walks of life. We only began actively fundraising the week of February 16, and despite these very difficult economic times, the momentum and support from the community continues to grow,” stated David Galarza who is seeking to have his name included on the ballot for the September 15, 2009 Democratic Primary Election. read more »
38th City Council District: Gonzalez Stealing Galarza's Ideas
Among the City Council reps who sided with the Bloomberg Putsch and betrayed two votes of NYC voters on term limits was Sara Gonzalez. Fortunately there is a good candidate running against her for the Democratic Primary in the 38th District...as first announced on Daily Gotham (go here for my initial comments on Galarza). There seems to be something of a spat between Galarza and his opponent, Gonzalez, regarding a moratorium on any new building construction in Sunset Park, something Gonzalez has apparently adopted from Galarza without acknowledgment (I am a scientist, so in my field you reference who you get your ideas from even if they are rivals, and if you don't, it is considered dishonest). This is a press release from Galarza's campaign: read more »
38th City Council District: David Galarza's in
Word is that David Galarza is throwing his hat in the ring for the 38th City Council District against Sara Gonzalez, one of the Bloomberg 29 who voted to overturn the term limits New York voters twice approved.
Sara Gonzalez is one of Bloomberg's 29 Trained Surrender Monkeys on the City Council who jump when Bloomberg tells them to. She also is caught up in the City Council scandal where millions of dollars of our tax money has been "misdirected" into fake non-profits. Gonzalez has refused to account for some $269,000 of our tax money. Generally I expect that kind of behavior from a Republican! read more »
