Lew Fidler on Bloomberg: Yes, He's a Republican!
I have my differences with Lew Fidler, but sometimes he really hits the nail on the head. And this is one of those times. This is from the Daily News: (hat tip to a fellow blogger)
...Mike Bloomberg is the largest contributor to the Republican Party in our city. He bankrolled the State Senate Republicans and has gifted $50,000 a piece to each County Republican organization."
"More importantly, he shares the economic views of George Herbert Walker Bush. While he has been okay with raising the sales tax and real property taxes on working people, the only tax he went against voraciously was raising the income tax on the wealthiest New Yorkers. Why? Because 'they spend the money in restaurants'.
"The last time I checked my thesaurus that was 'trickle down economics'. And if that is not George HW Bush, then I don't know what is."
The Bloomberg campaign can try to explain the tightening of this race as a semantic difference in a poll question. More accurately, it is people seeing the mayor for the reality of his record and not the media hype and campaign jazz. If it walks, like a duck and quacks like a duck, New Yorkers will soon enough recognize that it is in fact a duck."
I have been pointing out for years that Mike Bloomberg was the larrgest individual donor to Tom Delay's far right wing PAC during Bush's first term. Yes that was the PAC devoted to stopping a woman's right to choose and all environmental and labor laws, and to pushing the right wing Republican agenda. Mike Bloomberg was the biggest supporter of this far right wing PAC. And remember, Bloomberg also called those of us who protested against the Republican Convention in 2004 (which included a large union presence as well as my 6-month pregnant wife) the same as terrorists.
Thanks for telling the truth Lew. Now if you can just get your buddy Vito Lopez to stop backing (usually behind the scenes these days, openly before he was the Party Boss) Republicans like Bloomberg we might all get along better here in Brooklyn.
