So today is a bit of a day for the race for the 39th City Council district. This morning heard about Jim Brennan endorsing Josh Skaller. Heard even more about Josh's campaign that isn't ready for prime time blogging, but will come out soon. As Rock Hackshaw, also hopefully soon to be City Councilman, would say, stay tuned.

Now I hear John Heyer, perhaps taking to heart my blogging about the match that could be made between him and the Hasids of Boro Park, has been seen with the Hasids in Boro Park. Sent by a reader and from Chaptzem Blog:

Gotta say, he looks the part.

I have been baffled by the Dov Hikind/Brad Lander connection. How could Dov help someone with the views on Israel that Brad has (I have been thinking of those views as I read an interesting book called Human Diasporas, and a diary might be brewing about diasporas soon if I find some time before a meeting I have to go to at UCLA at the end of the month). And far more incomprehensible to me is how Brad could work with someone whose views on racial profiling and integration of neighborhoods is so diametrically opposed to his own. All around an uncomfortable fit that needed the negotiation of Yenta de Blasio, I suspect, to arrange.

Now John Heyer, without the benefit of pro-racial profiler and anti-integration of neighborhoods Hikind, or for that matter Yenta de Blasio, has much closer beliefs to most Hasids than Brad Lander, and I suspect this charming boychick made a good impression.

And I will note that the comments on the Chaptzem Blog seem intrigued:

Is he Jewish? Any Jewish blood? He has Yiddishe Chain!

But they want details that are perhaps outside of Heyer's expertise (and mine as well):

Is he bobav? satmar? belz?

whose hashgucha does he hold by?

is he for arron or zalman?

We need to know!!

Does he have any "fried" blood?

While I kvetched about IND hypocritically endorsing Heyer, counter to their stated ideals and contrary to the wishes of a substantial section of the club, I think the readers of Chaptzem Blog could well support Heyer if they don't owe Dov a favor.
