Assemblyman Jim Brennan Endorses Josh Skaller for City Council
In the race for the 39th City Council District, Assemblyman Jim Brennan had been fairly quiet on this race even though his district substantially overlaps with the 39th. It looks like Jim has made up his mind and is joining State Senator Eric Adams in endorsing Josh Skaller.
From Josh's campaign:
The momentum continues to build for Josh Skaller's City Council campaign. On Wednesday, Skaller received the endorsement of influential Assemblyman Jim Brennan.
"I am proud to be endorsed by a great progressive leader like Assemblyman Brennan," said Skaller. "Assemblyman Brennan is a real reformer and a fighter for the people of Brooklyn. When elected, I will go to work for Brooklyn families, stand up to party insiders, and end the slush fund culture of the City Council."
Brennan represents the 44th Assembly District, which almost entirely overlaps the 39th Council District. The Assemblyman praised Skaller's independence and reform credentials.
"The people of this district need a City Councilmember who will stand up to developers, special interests, and those who would abuse power," Brennan said. "That person is Josh Skaller."
Skaller, a Democrat, has been endorsed by many local leaders, including Senator Eric Adams and former Congressman Major Owens. The 39th Council District includes all or parts of Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Kensington, Borough Park, and Windsor Terrace.
The other Assembly member whose district slightly overlaps the district is Joan Millman. Millman has endorsed John Heyer in this race. Since her district barely overlaps the district and since Heyer's more conservative views on issues like choice make him unlikely to pull many voters outside conservative Boro Park, Brennan's endorsement is potentially the more critical one.
