In February 2003, the City of London began charging a fee to all private vehicles entering the area's central business district. Termed "congestion pricing," the policy has resulted in a number of outcomes that have produced a net benefit for the city's quality of life. Reduced traffic, more effective mass transit, improved local air quality and safety, and not least, considerable revenues for the city have led to the policy's wide acceptance, and even support for its expansion.
