Support Tenant Rights & Rent Control at City Hall
Start:
Wed, 03/22/2006 - 1:30pm
Come to City Hall to support tenant rights on Wednesday, March 22 when the city council will vote on three important pieces of legislation.
1. State Legislation Resolution 1, introduced by Council Speaker Christine Quinn, calling on Albany to repeal the Urstadt Law and restore home rule powers over rents and evictions to the City Council and Mayor.
2. Resolution 79,introduced by Council Member Rosie Mendez, which extends the city rent control law as is for three more years, until March 31, 2009.
3. Intro 118, introduced by Council Member Rosie Mendez, which extends the city rent stabilization law as is for three more years, until April 1, 2009.
These votes will take place at next Wednesday's regular "stated" meeting of the City Council. Stated meetings usually begin around 1:30 pm, but you are urged to come somewhat earlier in order to get through security at City Hall.
The NYS Tenants & Neighbors Coalition needs lots of tenants to show up at this meeting to applaud the Council when they vote on these measures. It is important that Council Members understand that tenants care enough about these issues to show up.
Tenants and supporters will be seated in the gallery above the City Council Chamber, on the second floor of City Hall in lower Manhattan.
