In January 2004 the eyes of the country were focused on Iowa as many of the nine Democratic presidential candidates gathered for the famous Iowa Caucuses. To everyone’s surprise the front runner was Howard Dean, a name that nine months earlier was virtually unknown. Suddenly, this doctor and six term governor from the rural state of Vermont was poised to lead the challenge against George W. Bush. Many forces, threatened by his populist support, joined together to defeat him.
