The midterm elections are approaching fast and you have the opportunity to get more involved in making sure that progressives turnout and vote this November.
People For the American Way needs your help in contacting our members to make sure our progressive voices are heard at the ballot box!
Over the past six years, we have seen an abuse of presidential powers undermining our country’s system of checks and balances, an erosion of fundamental civil liberties, irresponsible tax and spending policies and a disastrous foreign policy. It is time for a change – let’s make this A November to Remember!
People For the American Way has organized a series of phone banking nights to make focused calls to our members in key districts where important ballot measures and candidate races are taking place and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Our first phone bank will be on Wednesday, October 4 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the PFAW Northeast Regional Office at 149 5th Avenue, 7th Floor, in New York City. Phone banking will continue every Monday – Thursday until the election on November 7. Light snacks and refreshments will be served and volunteers will be briefed with inside information about the midterm election.

WFP also has a phone-from-home effort. You can sign up for that by clicking here.

Keep electronic voting out of NYC!
Prevent the problems that have happened in other cities from happening here before it is too late!
New York 's machine certification schedule is pushed back past December. With machines not being certified until, perhaps, February 20. In the new schedule, counties could be asked to choose equipment no later than March 7.
The delays are directly related to Ciber, the so-called "Independent Testing Authority" conducting most of NY's certification, and being unable to produce an acceptable Security Test Plan. Further revision of the security test plan is in progress, but the full security review cannot be completed before February.
We could generously say that Ciber didn't know what they were facing as they certified everything put in front of them for a couple years. Not so generously I say they are responsible for the recent, undeserved recertifying of the CA machines, and are still not reliable. This delay is due to another ITA deeming their plan lacking.
Ciber was listed on Hacking Democracy as not checking the Diebold for security, but certifying nonetheless.

Cyberspace . . . will have important effects in encouraging women to participate in designing and implementing models of economic development, constructing stable democracies, ensuring that different cultures can exist side by side without violent conflict and providing the sense of trust, partnership and solidarity that are necessary to any society in which people cooperate for mutual well-being.
- Lourdes Arizpe
Of the internet's viability as a tool for political change, we ask, is there a better example than the blog? Young and youthfully minded feminists have learned that blogging allows them to carve out personal and political spaces where their lives, their issues, their analyses of the world can come into sharp focus. Outside the confines of mainstream media, where women are addressed (usually exclusively) as consumers, feminist bloggers have become the cultural producers blazing some of the most radical and rousing paths toward revolutionary social change.

Voting machine demonstration!
