Members Bernadette Evangelist and Dave Robinson join our friends in peace and pass this request on to our friends at DFNYC:
"Hillary Clinton has betrayed her constituents and her own principles. She voted to give this most reckless, duplicitous and ignorant of presidents unlimited authority to use force in Iraq.
She supported the war from the beginning and even now after the deaths of over 2,200 Americans, tens of thousands of Iraqis and the waste of hundreds of billions of dollars, she holds a position not very different from that of George W. Bush (look for a 'winning' strategy, then withdraw troops...sometime).
As Cindy Sheehan says, 'Hillary Clinton is the leader of the pack of pro-war Democrats. I think that she is a political animal who believes that she has to be a war hawk to keep up with the big boys.'
Let's show the as-of-now presumptive Democratic presidential nominee that Republican-lite, pro-war candidates are no longer an option for the opposition party.
Let's meet every Friday starting
January 6, 2006 in front of Hillary office at
780 Third Avenue at 49th Street
5:30 to 6:00 pm
Bring a sign and some friends. Lets's show our "leaders" that we won't tolerate this war based on lies being fought by other people's children. "

On Tuesday, January 10th, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. the 18 grannies of the Granny Peace Brigade will appear at Criminal Court in connection with their October 17th action at the Times Square Recruiting Center. The Grannies, many of whom have maintained a "Bring the Troops Home" vigil for two years on Fifth Avenue, attempted to enlist but locked doors prevented them from entering the recruiting center, whereupon they sat down on the sidewalk. The police then arrested them and they were put into wagons, handcuffed (in back).
Among the eighteen is Molly Klopot, longtime activist for peace and justice issues, who at 86 is not the oldest granny. Another woman is 90.
Come and join with others at their court appearance. Let's demonstrate our support for these courageous women, who already spent jail time when they were booked in October, not to mention their many hours vigilling on Wednesdays for the past two years.
Norman Siegel is representing them and the courtroom will be large enough for you to attend. Mark your calendar.
Time: 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10
Place: Criminal Court at 100 Centre Street (Leonard is the cross street.)
Plan to come early as security lines are invariably long.

Concerned Dutchess County voters can meet and speak with State Assemblyman Joel Miller.
(NOTE: This replaces a previously scheduled meeting for January.)
The Assemblyman has kindly agreed to hearing our concerns about voting machine replacement. We would like to ask the Assemblyman to be our advocate to the State-level policymakers as HAVA continues to be implemented. We are currently working to coordinate this meeting with Seantor Saland's office - so the possibility exists that both lawmakers will be present.
The meeting will be held at the Assemblyman's district office in Dutchess County in the town of Poughkeepsie. That's at:
3 Neptune Road
Suite A19E
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
845-463-1635
Map.
We will be meeting on Friday, January 13th, 2006, commencing at 12 noon.
If you want to join us at the meeting, please send an email to vicky@vickyperry.com. We should have a reasonable idea how large a group we will be to find a suitable meeting room.
I encourage you to bring any petition material you may have that supercedes what we already left at the district office.

"Saving Our Democracy" brings together 20 of the nation's leading activists and authors to audit the state of American democracy and to offer real ideas on how to save it. Through the day's eight panels, "Saving Our Democracy" will cover every major domestic democracy issue from voter suppression and religious McCarthyism to government secrecy and the failing media.

Tom De Luca, co-author of Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers!, will be at Demos for a lunch-time discussion about his latest book that charts the rise of what the authors label as the "demonization" of American politics. Showing how political campaigns often neglect debates over policy in favor of fights over the private character and personal lives of politicians, political interests are still served by this style of politics, but democracy, the authors contend, is the loser. DeLuca will discuss the distinctly American qualities of "demonization", how their frequency and intensity has grown in the last four decades and ways in which democracy and freedom of speech can coexist in a productive, idea-rich environment.
