Answer to question two: yes, but it's pretty easy, especially if you're on good terms with your state assemblyperson. Once you get them to invite you, all you need to do is carry petitions for your local electeds and nominees within your ED (an area of about 2 square blocks). You usually need to collect about 20-40 signatures. It can be done in a couple of hours on a Saturday.
