My Point
Really, I thought I was clear.
Party unity is essential. While some Hillary supporters who are not backing Obama may have their reasons, albeit misguided, the liberal/feminists playing this game are out of their minds.
But unity is a two-way street. Both sides need to come together. While unity is not a reason to discontinue local primaries which have their own basis, organizations whose specific purpose is to help elect a presidential candidate (as opposed to members of those organizations--who can and should do whatever they please), should not be involving themselves in primaries against incumbent officeholders, which appear to be revenge-driven, at a time the party is trying to come together. Moreover, they should not be doing things which give the appearance of implying that support.
Groups like "Brooklyn for Barack" only have a power-base because they've attached themselves to a candidate's name. That names is not their property. Their activities on behalf of any other candidate in a local primary will only create discomfort for their presidential candidate, and make it appear that he cannot cotrol his army. Moreover, the ultimate result, if replicated around the country, will surely be an abondoment of Obama by those who are the targets of such operations. This is not a good thing. It should stop.
Every member of Barack for Brooklyn should feel perfectly free to oppose Ed Towns, although surely better reasons exist than his choice for the nomination (I've even documented some of them); making that the issue seems a virtual acccusation of being a race-traitor, which is not the best face to be displaying when a majority of the voters in the Presidential race will be people of colorlessness.
And, not that it is relevant to my argument, but frankly, though, the selective amnesia one sees displayed here about Powell's past seems inconsistent with other positions adopted here editorially.
Leonard Matlovich once said "they gave me a medal for killing a man, and a discharge for loving one".
But TDG condemns a candidate in one race for loving two women, while seemingly dismissing the relevance of another candidate beating up at least four of them.
I'd never thought I'd say this, but I'm gald my member of Congress is Yvette Clarke
