It's a gift
As of this morning, WNYC is reporting that Fossella is leaning towards resisting the pressure that's being put on him by the national GOP, and continuing his re-election campaign. I wonder if he has contemplated what his political future would have looked like, if instead of being stopped by the police, he'd been stopped cold by someone else's car.
Perhaps he thinks he's in the same position as Larry Craig or David Vitter, and that he'll weather the storm, but there's a big difference: neither Craig nor Vitter endangered the lives of others (to my knowledge). But I suspect that if he ends up having to serve his 5 days behind bars, instead of in front of them, reality will set in.
Until then, I will continue to root for Vito's determination to hold on to his seat; I'd rather campaign against him than anyone else I can think of this fall.
