Republican Racism

Yet More Republican Racism: pitting Hispanics against Blacks

Looks like there is new verseion of republican racism: pitting Hispanics against blacks. Divide and conquer has always been the only way the Republicans could win, and too often it works. They are at it again but this time it is NOT working and, in fact, has led to the downfall of a racist republican.

From the racist GOP chairman in New Mexico's Bernalillo County:

"The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors," he said. "African-Americans came here as slaves.

"Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won't vote for a black president."

Of course this is a complete lie, as the polls have consistently shown. I have reported before that Hispanics overwhelingly support Obama over McCain. That trend continues not just nationally, but in New Mexico as well:

SurveyUSA, 9/14-16:

New Mexico Latinos:

McCain (R) 28
Obama (D) 69

Nationally, according to the Research 2000 daily tracking poll for Daily Kos:

McCain (R) 27
Obama (D) 68

Thanks to Daily Kos for this info.

Republican "Values": Racism and Intolerance

I have covered many amazingly disgusting examples of Republican racism and anti-Semitism over the years.

Not too long ago there was an idiot bar owner in Cobb Co. Georgia who made T-shirts with a picture of Curious George (registered trademark of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) eating a banana with the caption "Obama '08." When confronted by some uppity civil rights groups the bar owner insisted he wasn't racist. From a Daily Kos article because the original newspaper article keeps crashing Firefox:

The T-shirts are being peddled by Marietta bar owner Mike Norman at his Mulligan's Bar and Grill in Cobb County. They show a picture of Curious Georgie peeling a banana, with the words "Obama '08" underneath.

...

Norman acknowledged the imagery's Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey.

Of course this fool got slapped down by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for copyright infringement and generally being an a racist idiot:

The Ugliness of Republican Hysteria

Spent way too much of this weekend petitioning in the hot weather to get Joy and me on County Committee and our friend Devin Cohen on the ballot for Civil Court judge. I can't complain too much because Devin is wearing himself out walking districts, petitioning for himself and others, meeting voters and generally doing his part. But even the small part we did with Devin wore me out. But it also gave me yet another personal encounter with Republican ugliness.

In 2006 I encountered a particularly nasty Republican liar in Bay Ridge while I was campaigning for Steve Harrison for Congress and they were campaigning for Vito "Two Families" Fossella. This Republican woman was telling voters that Fossella was an Independent. She got angry with me for correcting her each time by pointing out that he was a Republican that she actually shoved me. Well, lying and violence is Bush Republicanism, so what can we expect from our local Republicans?
