The National Jewish Democratic Committee sent out this notice asking EVERYONE to vote and, for the sake of Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, Job Creation, tolerance, etc.. to vote Democratic:

All the work that NJDC has been doing over the past year comes down to today's election.

We need your help. Republicans have nominated extremist candidates who, among other things, oppose Social Security and women's rights, question the validity of climate change, propose eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and reject unemployment benefits. Also in the mix is an eclectic group of opponents to the separation of church and state, conspiracy theorists, and even a Nazi reenactor.

There is too much at stake to sit this election out. No matter where you live, your vote can make a real difference in helping Democrats stay in power.

We've compiled information about right-wing antics, helped to dispel myths and worked to get the truth out about candidates' records. With your help, the Jewish community voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama.

We are proud that Obama captured 78% of the Jewish vote, according to exit polls. Despite all the hype that Jewish voters would flock to John McCain, these polls show that McCain only received 21% of the Jewish vote.

This was a decisive election; we sent a clear message regarding the differences between the Obama platform and the policies of President Bush and McCain.

With Obama's victory, we selected a candidate who shares the values of the vast majority of American Jews, including the separation of church and state, a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, and reproductive freedom.

Election after election for the last 36 years, Republicans have persisted in asserting that their nominee would gain a significant portion of the Jewish vote. Supporters of McCain engaged in an unprecedented anti-Obama campaign in the Jewish community. So I mainly recognized Sarah Silverman from her role as the occasional stalker in the TV show Monk. But she is part of a great voter outreach effort that really needs to be up here on Daily Gotham. The Great Schlep: getting your Jewish Grandparents in Florida to vote Obama. It could swing the election!
