A Message From Lambda Independent Democrats About September 14 Primary
This comes from Lambda Independent Democrats:
Next Tuesday, September 14, Democrats throughout New York State will go to the polls to select candidates for a wide range of offices. Here in Brooklyn, there are several competitive races that will shape our neighborhoods, our borough, and our state.
We encourage you to find time to volunteer for one of the following candidates endorsed by Lambda Independent Democrats. Now, more than ever, these campaigns need volunteers to knock on doors, make phone calls, and do visibility. Contact information for each campaign is below. Lambda members are hitting the streets, and we hope you will join us!

PRIMARY ENDORSEMENTS 2010 -PART2 (BROOKLYN).
Let me preface this column by saying that I have always been committed to getting term- limits legislation enacted for ALL legislators (federal, state and city/local). I go back many years fighting on this issue. I have written and spoken extensively on this issue: in media, in academia, in public and in private; on radio, on television, in newspapers, magazines, newsletters and on blogs.
Since Mayor Bloomberg’s hijacking of the expressed will of New York City’s voters in 2008, I have now arrived at the position that a 12-year limit should be uniform. Why should he get twelve years, when other mayors cannot?
I envisage six 2-year terms for state senators and state assembly members and three 4-year terms for city officeholders (including District Attorneys). In Congress, I see six 2-year terms for the house-members, and two 6-year terms for federal senators. We should also totally eliminate those two year terms that occasionally come up for city council members. So keep this at the back of your mind while you go through my endorsement list. It will help you better understand some of my choices. read more »
Upset Win for Sean Coffey (Attorney General) for Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats Endorsement
I have yet to pay much attention to the Attorney General race in NY State. The candidate I was hoping for (Denise O'Donnel) is not running. Many people I know favor Eric Schneiderman, who has gotten the endorsement of Democracy for NYC rather overwhelmingly. And many expected him to get the endorsement of Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats (CBID).
My wife and I hadn't talked about last Thursday's CBID meeting until today. We've been busy and I have still been on German time. So it was a surprise when I heard that CBID had NOT endorsed favorite Eric Schneiderman, but rather dark horse Sean Coffey. Sean Coffey had not been on my radar, but Joy tells me he was really impressive (though I wonder how much that has to do with his last name sounding like her favorite beverage).
Coffey, a military veteran, is solidly pro-marriage equality and for repeal of DADT. He has a solidly pro-union background. He seems like a real old-time liberal who also has worked with George H Bush and been offered a position by Barack Obama. read more »
John Liu for NYC Comptroller
The September 29th runoff for NYC Comptroller pits John Liu (with a degree in mathematical physics and extensive financial experience) against David Yassky (a lawyer and career politician with no financial experience, whose financial abilities are so challeneged he threw $15,000 of taxpayer money to a fake non-profit that did nothing but pay salaries to a former City Councilman's family). Here is a sampling of people and organizations who have endorsed John Liu for Comptroller, with quotes where available. I should note I may have been the first person in the city to endorse Liu for Comptroller! Since then he has a broad coalition of people supporting him, from firefighters to teachers to most of the LGBT organizations in the city to the UAW, etc. etc. etc. Here's just a sampling:

Updated Round Up of Endorsements
This is updated from a previous post, adding some endorsements from other bloggers and a few other newspapers and organizations.
I have spent some time tracking down the endorsements of various groups and papers that represent a broad cross section of NYC...or as broad as I could. I generally selected groups I have respect for or contact with for other reasons or that I consider of some importance to New Yorkers in general. This is not comprehensive and I am not sure I even tracked down all the endorsements from some of the groups. I should also note that I am not covering the mayoral primary largely because I am fine with either Thompson or Avella. I am also only covering a sub set of City Council races that I consider most important. It would be impossible for me to cover them all. I include my own endorsements first, though of course you are free to consider my opinion as useless and skip to the real endorsements. I hope this is helpful to all New Yorkers still undecided about who to vote for in Tuesday's primary. Some polling info and predictions can be found at the end. read more »
