Rock Hackshaw, Ready to Rumble
[Note: posted and title chosen by mole333]
WHERE IS “NEW YORK ONE” WHEN YOU NEED THEM?
An article by Rock Hermon Hackshaw, candidate for the New York City Council
Over the past decade or so, the cable television station New York One (NY1) has emerged as a prominent source for local news in this city. They break many stories. They also highlight many pressing issues facing this city; plus they permanently keep their fingers on the pulse of New York’s politics: much more so than all the other news stations here. Political junkies in this city try not to miss Dominic Carter at 7pm on weekdays; it’s a political high most nights. The “Road to City Hall” program is definitely one of the best ways to find out about the citywide races for mayor, comptroller and public advocate. It is also informative as to races for borough president, district attorney and/or city council member. read more »
Debates in the 36th City Council District? (Brooklyn)
This comes from a district I am not so familiar with so have so far stayed neutral on. I know Rock Hackshaw has been critical of Al Vann (the incumbent) and that Vann was part of the Bloomberg Putsch. Saquan Jones is one of several primary opponents for the 36th district and has sent the following call for debates to all the primary candidates:
During my pursuit for Brooklyn’s 36th District City Council Seat, I have experienced a number of twists and turns, but the one constant I have come to realize is that there are still GOOD PEOPLE out there. Regardless of presentation…good people listen, regardless of strife…good people still create opportunities and regardless of conditions…good people persevere. Recently, I started the door-to-door portion of my campaign and during this process; I have been embraced with open arms, so I will add another facet:

Harrison Challenges McMahon to 5 Debates
Democratic Congressional candidate Steve Harrison (NY13th CD Staten Island, Southwest Brooklyn), who in 2006 received a higher percentage of the vote than any Democrat ever under the district’s current configuration, is challenging September 9th primary opponent Councilman Michael McMahon to five debates, 3 in Staten Island and two in Brooklyn. The primary winner faces the eventual Republican nominee in November to replace incumbent Vito Fossella, who is not seeking re-election because of his recent scandals.
Harrison wants to begin debating his opponent as soon as possible.
"I'm ready to go today" said Harrison, "Mike told the Staten Advance that he wants to discuss the issues. So let's discuss. I've been discussing Congressional issues for over two years. have a website, campaign team and money in the bank. It will be interesting to hear what Mike says about National issues and why he voted for congestion pricing and the largest property tax hike in history and why, as a Democrat, he's vying for the Conservative party endorsement."
Harrison soundly defeated Fossella, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines ,all five times they debated in 2006. read more »
The GOP Debate: Call Your Broker
Location
Advice for all you traders in political futures, based on first impressions:
Giuliani: Sell. He seriously bungled the abortion questions, and hardly got a chance to talk about how he Totally Ruled on 9/11. There's no reason to think that this won't be a pattern going forward. On the positive side, he didn't totally blow the parts about immigration -- though he didn't get much chance to go into it. Overall, the early reviews are not kind.
McCain: Sell. At least until he figures out how to project passion as opposed to cartoonish, rehearsed rants.
Romney: Hold. He was overly-slick and overly-calculated, but those are qualities that will work better for him over the long run than they do when compressed into a single debate. read more »
