Civilization reels, today at 5:30 PM
The New York Times blog The Lede informs of a soul-crushing civilizational catastrophe scheduled to hit the five boroughs (the rest of the country as well, but it's all about us, and more specifically me, as far as I'm concerned) at 5:30 PM today:
At 5:30 p.m. Eastern time today, all 7,100 Starbucks locations in the United States will close their doors for three hours.
Immediate ramifications stretch far beyond the lack of strong coffee in dozens of permutations, though that was certainly the most important — the late shift may be running slower tonight without their notoriously strong brew.
I'll give you your immediate ramifications when I'm done clawing hopelessly at the shuttered door of my Starbucks. The inhumanity of this cruel corporate exercise chills the soul.
