Plamegate

Another Republican Found Guilty by a Jury

Looks like yet another in a long line of Halliburton Republicans is guilty of crimes. Scooter Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, has been found guilty by a jury. From Salon.com:

Eleven jurors -- the 12th was dismissed after being exposed to press reports about the case -- found Libby guilty of 1) obstructing justice by lying to the grand jury about how he learned and whom he told about Plame; 2) making a false statement by lying to the FBI about a conversation he said he had about Plame with NBC's Tim Russert; 3) committing perjury by lying to the grand jury about his conversation with Russert; and 4) committing perjury by lying about his conversation with Cooper and other reporters.

What was left off that list of charges was treason. Libby was part of a conspiracy that revealed the identity of a covert agent who was involved in the War against terrorism. Revealing that identity compromised our defense against terrorism and constitutes treason. That is the real charge that should have been leveled against Libby.

Now, what was Dick Cheney's role in all of this? Was his underling acting alone or under direction?  read more »

Karl Rove, Dan Bartlett subpoenaed in Libby/Plame case

It's Fitzmas, according to Newsweek.

Jan. 26, 2007 - White House anxiety is mounting over the prospect that top officials—including deputy chief of staff Karl Rove and counselor Dan Bartlett-may be forced to provide potentially awkward testimony in the perjury and obstruction trial of Lewis (Scooter) Libby.

Both Rove and Bartlett have already received trial subpoenas from Libby’s defense lawyers, according to lawyers close to the case who asked not to be identified talking about sensitive matters. While that is no guarantee they will be called, the odds increased this week after Libby’s lawyer, Ted Wells, laid out a defense resting on the idea that his client, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, had been made a “scapegoat” to protect Rove. Cheney is expected to provide the most crucial testimony to back up Wells’s assertion, one of the lawyers close to the case said.

And now, watch them eat each other. Beautiful.

Run, Ari, run

We would like to use this opportunity to politely - cordially, even - encourage former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer to run for Congress in the 19th District.

Seriously, republicans: if you have to, draft him. We'll help.

Breaking: Freepers to protest New York Times Monday

From illegal immigrant anchor baby Michelle Malkin Maglalang and her terrorist pals at Free Republic comes this jewel:

Protest the New York Times Revealing of U.S. Secrets, Monday, July 10, 5 p.m.

We have a sound permit, and we will be across the street from the New York Times. They are at 229 West 43rd Street.

The groups on board so far are Free Republic, Caucus for America, the Congress for Racial Equality, and Protest Warrior, NYC Chapter. We have reached out to several other groups as well, and are waiting to hear back from them.

Some high-visibility media people are interested in speaking at the protest. More information will be coming on this as we gather groups and speakers.

So hold the date! If you have been as sick about the Times's [sic] unconscionable blabbing of our classified information as the rest of those who care about the nation, now is your chance to do something to make your outrage heard.

A freakfest on our doorstep! Can we let this pass by without suitably mocking these people? I'm thinking huge posters emblazoned with "Valerie Plame" or just pictures of Turdblossom and Scooter. The opportunities, really, are endless; and as to the high-visibility media people, all I want to know is if Rush Limbaugh Limpdick will be handing out Viagra. Or will terrorist Ann Coulter make a showing?

Ooooooh. Sweet. I am so there.

This man is angry

Dick Cheney speaking today at a fundraiser for Brian Bilbray out in CA-50; can you tell he just found out he may be called as a witness in Scooter Libby's trial?

I say this calls for a caption contest. Go for it, commenters!
