Iran: the people rise

These are the people that George Bush and Dick Cheney wanted to nuke. Behold the axis of evil. Images from Faramarz on Flickr.

Re: Iran: the people rise

Thanks. I'm getting goosebumps from seeing those photos.

Yesterday, I was cynically prepared to believe that the Supreme Leader was giving the protesters enough time and space to vent themselves into exhaustion before shutting them down, as happened 10 years ago. But today, with photos of massive rallies from places far from Tehran, with open dissension among the Ayatollahs, and with the Council of Experts, who are legitimately empowered to remove Khameni from office if they choose, holding a emergency meeting in Qom, I am daring to hope that change may actually be coming to Iran. Maybe not the downfall of the Islamic Republic, as most Americans would desire, but positive change nonetheless.

I love seeing the photos of the young Iranian women who make sure that their headscarves don't hide their beauty. Turning repression into a fashion accessory is a form of protest too.
