SD-3 State Senate Race: Ricardo Montano and Ivan Young Endorse Jimmy Dahroug
Jimmy Dahroug picks up two good endorsements in his bid to turn the State Senate blue. Remember, Jimmy was one of two Democrats who came closest to picking up a State Senate seat in 2006 and has a better shot this year thanks to a better organized campaign and an earlier start. From Jimmy Dahroug's campaign:
Legislator Ricardo Montano, Islip Dem Chair Ivan Young Endorse Dahroug
Today Dahroug for Senate campaign received two major endorsements. Suffolk County Legislator Ricardo Montano, (9th L.D.) representing Brentwood, Central Islip and Islandia, and Islip Town Democratic Chairman Ivan Young officially endorsed Jimmy Dahroug's campaign for New York State Senate (S.D. 3).
While Legislator Montano moved to suspend his bid for the State Senate, he has decided to put his full support behind Jimmy Dahroug. In a letter to Democratic Party Committee Members, Montano stated, "I believe that with hard work and the right candidate we Democrats will win the 3rd Senate District and the State Senate this November. That is why I am endorsing Jimmy Dahroug for State Senate.
As a resident of the 9th Legislative District, Jimmy Dahroug shares the values of a community that has the largest concentration of Democratic voters. He will be a voice in Albany fighting for fair school funding and bringing tax relief to our district. He is exactly the type of fighter we need representing Islip Town residents in the State Senate in Albany. Our community needs his voice in Albany."
"I'm proud and grateful to have earned Legislator Montano's support," said Dahroug. Noting their 2006 primary, Dahroug said, "We've always maintained a positive working relationship - especially because of our shared commitment to bring the tax relief and school aid our residents deserve."

Islip Town Democratic Leader Ivan Young played an instrumental role in uniting both candidates and also endorsed Jimmy Dahroug. "I've watched Jimmy and his team work hard to build an incredible grassroots movement from the bottom up and I'm proud to be part of it. Jimmy has the unique ability as a candidate to bring people together - in particular, he can unite the Democratic base, independent minded voters, and republicans who want real change in Albany."
Dahroug accepted Young's endorsement: "It's an honor to have the support of Islip Town Democratic Leader Ivan Young. Since he became party chair in 2006, Ivan has led the Islip Democrats to unprecedented victories. We both share a commitment to people-focused grassroots politics. Having witnessed Ivan's work in Islip firsthand, I know my team is very fortunate to have him on our side."
In the 2006 Democratic Primary, Legislator Montano and Jimmy Dahroug's results combined to receive over sixty-five (65%) per-cent of the democratic primary votes cast in the 3rd Senatorial District. Dahroug noted that the Town of Islip spans over fifty-five percent of the district and emphasized the significance of the Ricardo Montano and Ivan Young endorsements. "Together, we'll win this race and work to build a government people can believe in."

Resisting the temptation
I am sorely tempted to say, "Take that, ___________ [insert name of party machine bigwig here]." But the fact is that this campaign is going to be a tough struggle. It does question seriously, however, just how thorough the state senate campaign committee and others were in vetting local support for their chosen candidate. First the Suffolk County Dems refuse to endorse the "anointed one," then elected Dems in Brookhaven express reservations about his campaign -- and now Democratic leaders in Islip publicly endorse Dahroug.
The time when the grass roots can tell the machine to take a long walk off a short pier is getting closer.
