Good Turnout in Brooklyn: Super Tuesday
Voted on my way to work today. Usually when I vote before work I am among the first dozen or so in my election district. Today I was number 31. The polls were not packed the way they were in November 2004 when they were overwhelmed, but they definitely already have lines, something I have never seen in a primary election. Looks like voter turnout will be quite high.
At my polling place there were only Obama people. I also saw Obama supporters saturating Park Slope Sat, Sun and Mon. They all looked excited and thrilled. Interestingly, the few Hillary supporters I saw Sun and Mon looked more grim and determined. This is surprising given the fact that New York is Hillary country. The number of Hillary people I have seen in NYC in general has been nearly nil. One grim looking person with a button and one trio of people illegally putting Hillary signs up on lamp posts along 7th Ave in Brooklyn. By contrast I have seen Obama supporters outside churches, one street corners and outside the Park Slope food co-op. I have also been surprised by the number of windows sporting Obama signs in Park Slope and how few Hillary signs I have seen. I suspect Brooklyn will give Obama a good bunch of delegates, though no doubt many areas will go for Hillary. I hear the Obama ground game is quite good in Brooklyn (and my own eyes have seen that this is true) and in the Bronx. I have not seen any campaigners much in Midtown Manhattan.
There is no question, of course, that Hillary will win New York State any more than there is that Obama will win Illinois. It is all a matter of how many delegates each will pick up from eachother's state. My guess is Obama will pick up a higher percentage in New York State than Hillary will in Illinois, and I suspect Brooklyn will be a main contributor to that (as I have said all along).
Whoever you are voting for, get out there and vote. Though of course I urge you to join us in voting Obama:
Daily Gotham endorsement of Obama
Culture Kitchen endorsement of Obama
Paul Volker's endorsement of Obama
Former Chicago Now president's endorsement of Obama
Kate Michelman's (former NARAL president) endorsement of Obama
Native American Times endorsement of Obama

And I was the 88th voter in my ED and that was the ED that was the most busy.
My ED didn't open on time
My ED is one of twelve at P.S. 199 in Queens. Thanks to the Board of Education, they weren't allowed to begin setting up until 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. As a result, the polling place couldn't open on time -- and there was a line of people waiting to vote.
If you heard of any similar incidents, please let me know. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.
