Give a Saturday to Winning Congress: Field Trips to Westchester to Canvass for John Hall

If you want to win back Congress and our democracy, remember that there are two Congressional races nearby that need our help. If you aren't helping Steve Harrison in Bay Ridge and Staten Island, you can be helping John Hall in Westchester.

This is a message from a DFNYC organizer friend of mine about John Hall and two trips she is organizing to canvass for Hall:

Me and a my Democracy for New York City friends have decided to adopt one congressional candidate to work for. Having one candidate to work for makes it much simpler for us to contact our friends and encourage everyone to get involved.

The candidate is John Hall. John is running for congress in the 19th congressional district which covers Northern Westchester county and much of the Hudson Valley.

Why John Hall?

* He is a person who has a history of involvement in causes that we care about. He was active in the campaign to close down the Indian Point and Shoreham nuclear power plants.
* He has been strongly endorsed by people I really trust - Robert F Kennedy Junior and Pete Seeger as well as many labor unions AFL-CIO, SEIU.
* His opponent is Sue Kelly a Republican with a 17 percent League of Conservation Voters record, poor grades by labor and civil rights groups. She is mostly loved by the NRA who has contributed more than 30,000 dollars to her over the years.
* He needs our help. His is not the most visible of the local Congressional campaigns - it is really dependent on grass roots efforts. If we can elect John Hall Democrats, will likely take congress.

What am I doing? This Saturday, October 14, I am organizing a trip to ring doorbells for John. We will be meeting at Grand Central Station at 9 AM and taking the train to Peekskill. The campaign will meet us at the station, provide us with instructions (and water). You can be back in the city by 6:30 to do whatever you want to do Saturday night. The round trip train fare is 17.00. If the train fare is a problem, let me know. DFNYC will help out. If you are interested in going on this trip, please respond to this e mail make certain I have your phone number. If anyone would like to hang out in Peekskill after the canvass I would like to organize some kind of dinner. It is a lovely town and I am certain we could find a restuant or bar to add some play to this trip .

If Saturday is bad for you, we are planning on doing this again on October 22. Let me know if that works. There is also phone banking in New York City. You can actually make phone calls from home if you are interested.

Hope to see lots of people on Saturday.

Something to motivate you

All of us here at Take19 are very excited about this race and very excited that it's finally getting some attention. Here's an article from CQ that bumps up the ranking on the race. With your help, we can take back NY-19:
