Spano goes on vacation; refuses to concede
State Senator Nick Spano goes away on vacation for 6 days refusing to concede to Andrea Stewart-Cousins 2% margin win.
Stewart-Cousins said she understood Spano's unwillingness to concede, saying, "We all want all the eligible votes to be counted. That's what we were fighting for last time. I won't fight him on this. Two years ago he didn't want to count the eligible votes, but I'm not going to do what he did."
She said, however, that if the vote held up, "I would hope he would end it sooner rather than later."
At the Westchester County Board of Elections, co-commissioner Reggie Lafayette said workers would try to get through the unofficial count, based on reports from each polling place, on Wednesday. Then, probably next week, the machines would be recanvassed, which means making sure that the numbers on the machines match the numbers on the reports from the polling places. Election workers would be accompanied by Democratic and Republican representatives for the check.
After the recanvass, the paper ballots would be counted, again with party workers watching.
The republicans are ready to block this election with their lawyer already alleging there are 6,000 votes to be disputed.

Massa hasn't either
...which strikes me as a bit odd, unless there's something I don't know.
And another guy called ...
Maffei or Malfi? What's his name?
Stewart-Cousins/Spano is a racial/ethnic thing
The Stewart-Cousins/Spano is a racial/ethnic thing. They actually agree on most issues. But Yonkers is a rapidly gentrifying area of the state. Spano is Italian and draws largely support from the white neighborhoods, Stewart-Cousins is black and draws largely support of the minority neighborhoods. So the debate is less what they stand for and more who they are, and which group should have that seat. I think Spano has people telling him to fight like hell because if he loses that seat, its going to be a minority seat in albany forever, because that area is only going to gentrify more, not less. They see this as power that they are never going to get back if they lose it. And they are probably right.

Sue Kelly has not conceded either
The results of these elections will be difficult for the very-long entrenched just-ousted electeds to accept. Thank goodness their frantic efforts to stay in office will be at least a temporary full-employment act for election lawyers.
