A get to know your New York political critters moment

In looking for information about the New York Congressional delegation's awkward non-endorsement endorsement of Barack Obama (many haven't uttered the "E" word yet because they're waiting for Clinton to say it first), I stumbled upon a liveblog written by about this sort of "Hillary Watch" non-event. Now that we are down to the wire on her "endorsement" to Barack Obama, the newspaper seems to have been getting reports flying in on what the New York political establishment did and did not do regarding Ms. Clinton's insistence in painting herself as a sore loser.

I caught myself reading the whole darn thing and was struck speechless by this :

1:55 p.m. | The Bubble: Gail Sheehy, who writes about the passages through life’s changes and is the author of “Hillary’s Choice,” was just chatting with Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC. She had been at the Clinton “victory” party on Tuesday night in New York and posited that Mrs. Clinton was living in a total bubble, which made it impossible for her to concede. It was a literal bubble too — a basement two levels under the streets of Manhattan at Baruch College. There was no cell phone coverage or Internet access down there, which made it impossible to communicate with the outside world.

“We were living in Hillary Clinton’s parallel universe,” Ms. Sheehy said.

She noted that Terry McAuliffe, Mrs. Clinton’s national chairman and chief cheerleader, had introduced Mrs. Clinton that night as the next president of the United States.

“None of her high rollers could actually hear that Obama had already seized the nomination,” Ms. Sheehy said. “She was remaining in that bubble she’s been in for 500 days.” Adding to the isolation, in Ms. Sheehy’s view, was a traveling press corps that she described as hanging on Mrs. Clinton’s every word and supporters who were telling her not to drop out.

As a result of being in this “emotional space,” Ms. Sheehy said, Mrs. Clinton’s speech did not look “graceful” or even “grounded.”

You know, I thought that I was just starting to get a grasp on the New York political fauna up until I read this passage. I appreciate that they all gathered around and kind of, sort of made a spectacle of putting their foot down and saying they weren't going to wait for Saturday to show their support to Obama. Yet, it's bone chilling to think that they'd do this throughout her administration as well --and that the majority of people in that basement gymnasium were her New York political delegation, including governor Patterson.

At some point one of us here (and a may be looking at Michael, hint hint) said that a Clinton 2.0 presidency would be very much like Bush's. I seem to remember reacting increduly to that notion. Yet after reading this passage, I can tell you that the thought of having a whole core of sychophants "bubbling" a President Clinton made my stomach turn.

While my stomach was turning, my head was spinning as well :

Am I the only one getting the irony that the woman who complained about sexism is being "given her emotional space"?

Isn't it odd that the woman who'd answer that tough 3 am call has people walking on egg shells because she'll probably crumble into a puddle and actually steal Father Pflegel's show?

Isn't it unbecoming that the woman with testicular fortitude, has to be given four days to psychologically prepare to accept her defeat?

Am I missing something here?!?!

When I die I want to be buried in Chicago so I can stay active in politics.
