Clinton Surrogates Waste No Time Trying to Tar Barack Obama with Spitzer Scandal

Hillary Clinton's unofficial surrogates in New York City have wasted no time trying to smear Barack Obama with the alleged involvement of Eliot Spitzer with a prostitution ring.

Specifically, less than 30 minutes after news of the Governor's alleged involvement with the high-priced Emperor's Club broke on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, I received an e-mail from one of the most persistent Hillary backers in New York.

To wit, "As a reminder that a scandal can always be brewing around the corner -- especially for those politicians who like to project that they are 'above it all' -- see Eliot Spitzer. The hypocrisy is rich."

My receipt of this opportunistic and jaw-dropping e-mail was almost as shocking as the revelations of Governor Spitzer's misjudgment itself.

The speed and ease with which Hillary Clinton's unofficial surrogates have sought to benefit from the personal and professional troubles of a fellow Democratic - and the leader of her home state party no less - is mind numbing and frankly disgusting. While the e-mail does not mention Senator Obama by name - the implication is clear.

Just when you think you've seen the kitchen sink from the Clinton campaign - they open up the garbage disposal and toss the contents into the ring.

For shame.

What

are you talking about? This is the stupidest Obamabot post I've ever read.

I agree

the e-mail from the Clinton supporter was stupid! Then again, telling the world - out of one side of their mouth -that Barack Obama isn't ready to be president because of his inexperience and then offering to make him V.P. and one heartbeat away from President - out of the other side of their mouths - is probably a lot stupidier.

If it weren't for my horse...

I just came from an Obama-leaning thread where there were more people trying to prevent people from tying Clinton to Spitzer, the governor of her state and a supporter of the former first lady. I agree that it would be an unfair tie, but at least there was an almost legitimate connection. But Obama...I'm going to...it's just...I feel faint...

Spitzer

Are the Clintonistas forgetting to note that Spitzer is a C-L-I-N-T-O-N supporter?

You can judge someone by the company they keep. So how about it, Sen Clinton?

Thin

This is thinly sourced and full of vagueries.

And, just what the heck is an "unofficial surrogate" ?

Yes

I'd like a few more details before I judge. I don't think I got that kind of email. I can check with Joy if she did since I think she gets more Clinton email than I.

However, I suspect that we will be getting this kind of stuff from Clinton's camp. I honestly have been getting pretty disgusted by some of the things coming from her people. The "if Obama was white he'd never have come this far" meme, or the "Obama can't win" meme etc. are pretty nasty and dead wrong. So, my bet is this is true, but would like more details.

Jackson has a long history with one of Obama's chief rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband former President Clinton. He counseled the two when the president's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky became public.

But Jackson said his history with the Clintons doesn't complicate his decision to back his home state senator, calling Obama Illinois' "favorite son."

"It's not awkward at all," he said, adding, "I don't owe a debt to any of them."
