3,000 US Military Deaths; Protest Tuesday
I know it's irrational but something about round numbers seizes our attention: our nation's bicentennial, Columbus's 500th anniversary, Y2K, 3000 Military dead in Iraq.
Below tomorrow's predictable, planned, but necessary protests against the continuation of this immoral, illegal and wrong-headed Bush War. For a report of the compulsive surge plans of a Commander In Chief who can't say "no," see the article in Tuesday's Wall Street Journal.
I suggest you go. In and of themselves these protests do not end the war, but they set the stage for helping our elected leaders find their courage and remember to dance with who brung them, about which more later.

655,000
That's the number of Iraqis who have died since 2003 (source BBC News, Oct. 11).
An estimated 655,000 Iraqis have died since 2003 who might still be alive but for the US-led invasion, according to a survey by a US university.
The research compares mortality rates before and after the invasion from 47 randomly chosen areas in Iraq.
The figure is considerably higher than estimates by official sources or the number of deaths reported in the media.
It is vigorously disputed by supporters of the war in Iraq, including US President George W Bush.
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health estimate that the mortality rates have more than doubled since the invasion to overthrow Saddam Hussein, causing an average of 500 deaths a day.
I truly hope that all organizations involved will remember the suffering of the Iraqi people as well.
