The statements above are from Democratic Committee members who believe Supervisor Brian Foley should end his last-minute bid for the state Senate and focus on the urgent needs of Brookhaven Town.

Democratic state Senate candidate Jimmy Dahroug gave the following statement:
"I consider Brian Foley a friend and I have deep respect for his family's service to the region. With the grave consequences Brookhaven town now faces, Brian can best serve more residents by standing up to fight the Republican majority on the town board. With the Republican machine fighting to undermine the progress Brian Foley has made, the town is in a precarious situation. I urge him to re-focus on the 'more than full-time' job of Brookhaven Supervisor. Brookhaven needs Brian now more than ever."

It is worth noting County Legislator Montano has committed to leaving the primary and unifying around Dahroug's candidacy if, and only if, Foley also withdraws his bid.

"As Democrats, we run the risk of dividing our focus and squandering our resources by spending campaign dollars on a state Senate primary," said Jimmy Dahroug. "Instead, we should devote our attention to winning this seat for the Democratic Party, and I'm the candidate who can beat Caesar Trunzo. With Trunzo gone, we can make important changes that will benefit our community, our schools, and our working families."

In 2006, Dahroug won a three-way primary and then outpolled Sen. Trunzo Democrat to Republican ballots in the general election. It was the third party ballots that saved Trunzo in his toughest race in 30 years.

Brian Foley does not have the Suffolk County Democratic Committee nomination or the support of Islip Town Democratic Leader Ivan Young. The Dahroug campaign has already raised over $100,000 and earned the national endorsement of Democracy for America.
