Tumbling past Nixon
The newest CBS poll has George Bush at a new all-time low of 28% approval, 64% disapproval; by contrast, Richard Nixon's lowest approval number ever was 29%.
Scary thought: who are those 28%? And what is wrong with them?
At some point, the idea of impeachment, if this trend continues and Bush plunges through the 20% mark, will become a political necessity. The country won't tolerate this man very much longer.

That's the BTKWB limit
Or close to it.
That is, the "Bind, Torture, Kill Wilford Brimley Limit" - "the President’s approval ratings the morning after he pre-empted Monday Night Football in order to Bind, Torture, and Kill Wilford Brimley for his own sexual gratification."
It's actually slightly lower than I expected. My faith in the American people is renewed.
One theory is the BTKWB limit
There's also the crazification factor to consider.
John: Hey, Bush is now at 37% approval. I feel much less like Kevin McCarthy screaming in traffic. But I wonder what his base is --
Tyrone: 27%.
John: ... you said that immmediately, and with some authority.
Tyrone: Obama vs. Alan Keyes. Keyes was from out of state, so you can eliminate any established political base; both candidates were black, so you can factor out racism; and Keyes was plainly, obviously, completely crazy. Batshit crazy. Head-trauma crazy. But 27% of the population of Illinois voted for him. They put party identification, personal prejudice, whatever ahead of rational judgement. Hell, even like 5% of Democrats voted for him. That's crazy behaviour. I think you have to assume a 27% Crazification Factor in any population.
He's right about there.

Who are the 28%
I've speculated on who they are before. And I stand by that assessment.
During the primaries last year I pushed some of the pro-impeachment candidates. They didn't do so well. Candidates who were far more wimpy about impeachment did better. My take is people want Bush sidelined, not necessarily impeached. Personally I'd love to see him impeached and sentenced to a prison term. But I suspect many Americans don't really want to see their president put through that. They don't like him, they want things done differently, but impeachment may not be what they are looking for.
I say push him aside. Start some investigations, by all means, and if they reveal some stuff that even Republicans recoil at and utter the "i" word, then so be it. But let's focus on domestic issues like minimum wage, energy independence, integrity, stem cell research.
What's that? Oh yeah! We ALREADY are doing that within the first month of our control of Congress! That's right. We alredy are fulfilling Amererca's expectations. Once we are done with that, maybe we WILL be ready for impeachment.
