More sickening Mormon "activism"

The Mormon "church" has been in the news quite a lot lately, due to that organization's successful attack on the civil rights of LGBTQ Americans in California. However, coverage drives more coverage, and now, there's this.

Holocaust survivors to Mormons: Stop baptisms of dead Jews

Holocaust survivors said Monday they are through trying to negotiate with the Mormon church over posthumous baptisms of Jews killed in Nazi concentration camps, saying the church has repeatedly violated a 13-year-old agreement barring the practice.

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints say they are making changes to their massive genealogical database that will make it more difficult for names of Holocaust victims to be entered for posthumous baptism by proxy, a rite that has been a common Mormon practice for more than a century.

But Ernest Michel, honorary chairman of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors, said that is not enough. At a news conference in New York City on Monday, he said the church also must "implement a mechanism to undo what you have done."

"Baptism of a Jewish Holocaust victim and then merely removing that name from the database is just not acceptable," said Michel, whose parents died at Auschwitz. He spoke on the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Nazi-incited riots against Jews.

"We ask you to respect us and our Judaism just as we respect your religion," Michel said in a statement released ahead of the news conference. "We ask you to leave our six million Jews, all victims of the Holocaust, alone, they suffered enough."

Is it even possible to do anything more offensive?

Gov Palin is a joke!

Here is a thought-provoking matter to ponder over about Gov Palin. In Alaska there is a Statutory Rape law on the books that says that if an 18yr old has sex with a 17yr old it is a felony, and this law is implicit. Though I personally don't agree with teens having sex because of what can possibly happen, as in the case with Gov Palin's daughter. However, my argument is not whether an 18yr old should be arrested for having sex with a 17yr old, which I am not all that crazy about, but the law is the law. It can also be argued that Gov Palin has been an irresponsible parent for allowing it to happen, by not taking a stronger stand in educating her daughter about what can happen if she makes the choice to date and have sex, not to mention his age. This has more to do with Gov Palin being an irresponsible elected official, for not upholding the laws that she took an oath to uphold. Gov Palin along with others are treating this only as a personal matter, while totally disregarding its legal implication. I know this has caused personal embarrassment for Gov Palin, and I can sympathize with her for the embarrassment it has caused. Yet Irrespective of your differences with my opinion on this matter, I am sure we can all agree that we need someone in the Whitehouse that would implement the laws that they are entrusted to uphold. Because when we take a closer look at this matter, without any doubt there is a double standard being applied in this case, while many youngsters around the Country are serving jail time for commenting this same offense? After all, isn't the Republican the ones that are always saying building more prisons, is what this Country needs? How can we allow Gov Palin to govern America, with this type of mentality? I HOPE THIS IS NOT WHAT SHE MEANS WHEN SHE SAYS THAT SHE IS A MAVERICK!

What The Heck

Does Sarah Palin's daughter and the father of her child have to do with Morman's baptizing victims of the Holocaust posthumously?

Well

Maybe we should postumously gay marry all the Holocaust victims. Then the Mormons will have to postumously kick them out of the Mormon church if they postumously baptize them.

What amazingly presumptuous cultists the Mormon church has proven to be!

Oh, it gets better.

There's a database that contains all the people the Mormons have "baptized" into their cult.

According to that database, my father was baptized as a Mormon sometime after 1991.

I'm speechless.

Pathetic

To me it just shows them as being pathetic. They are so desperate for affirmation that they have to have fantasy conversions of people who never at any point in their lives considered being Mormon. It is like having imaginary friends because no one likes you. Remember, Mormons got run out on a rail from every town they tried to settle in, which is why they had to settle Utah. No one wanted to have anything to do with them. That's gotta give you a massive inferiority complex and making up imaginary lists of friends is perhaps just one psychotic, pathetic example of how this affects them.

So...you're Mormon, huh. Always suspected something Mormonish about you...

God, no :-)

Except for that one time in a sleazy Paris bathhouse, I've never had anything to do with Mormons Laughing out loud

But seriously, I had to tell my mom about this, and she freaked. This "baptism" isn't valid under our church's laws - once a Catholic, always a Catholic - but it's the sheer gall of these people that drives us nuts. My dad had every chance in life to become a Mormon, chose not to become one of them, and this deceptive, sacrilegious attempt to steal his soul without the consent of his surviving family is kinda infuriating. Real, serious religions don't do that.

Sue The Pants Off Of Them

That's what I would do if I found my Father's name on there. How dare they.

They've been doing this

this to Jews for a long time. It's outrageously disrespectful of other faiths. It also strikes me as kind of, well, crazy - dragooning people into a religion, not only without their consent, but without their even being alive, bespeaks a very weird understanding of spiritual life.

Speaking as an agnostic with little use for the trappings of organized religion, I've often told others that the only reason Mormonism seems wackier than other religions is that, because it was founded so recently, we know a lot more about its early history and the idiosyncracies of its founder (who strikes me as a confidence man with a serious weakness for the ladies) than we do of other religions. The idea being that, if we knew as much about the beginnings of other religions they would seem just as loopy as Mormonism.

But no. Proselytizing the living, as evangelical Christians and Lubavitcher Jews do, may be obnoxious, but they don't try to sneak dead people into their faith. This really is nutty, even by religious standards. Now I'm afraid to click on that link, to see whether they've done this to any of my relatives, too.
