Mejias prevails

Major nailbiter in Nassau County, but Dave Mejias appears to have pulled it off despite a GOP frenzy over brown people. Final numbers, per Nassau County BoE, are:

CANDIDATE NAME PARTY RESULTS CANDIDATE TOTAL

DAVID L MEJIAS D 5,919
DAVID L MEJIAS W 263 6,182
JOSEPH V BELESI R 5,093
JOSEPH V BELESI C 867 5,960

The GOP isn't conceding the race, and given the close tally, this one will definitely go to the absentees.

In some key races in NY

democrats did fairly well. In Islip and Brookhaven, longtime GOP strongholds have become more Democratic. In Northern Westchester, democrats did well in town races and gained a super majority in the Westchester legislature here

In what I took to be a key national race, the GOP was ousted from the governorship in Ky. Moveon activists played a role in that race first going door-to-door on the ground and then in a significant GOTV call-in effort to those identified as favorables in the canvass.
