Hillary attacks Edwards
Oh boy, here we go: a Hillary aide, Howard Wolfson, attacked John Edwards in remarkably sharp language over the latter's criticism of certain legislators fuddling over the war.
Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) staff "last night ripped into 2008 White House contender John Edwards -- her first direct assault on any of her potential Democratic presidential rivals," the New York Post reports.
"Clinton's surprising broadside came just hours after Edwards, in Harlem, delivered a sharp condemnation -- clearly aimed at Clinton, although he didn't mention her by name -- against those who fail to 'speak out' against the war in Iraq... Clinton's full-blown response to Edwards signals that her team considers him a top-tier threat."
Said Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson: "In 2004, John Edwards used to constantly brag about running a positive campaign."
Subtext: "Take that, you loser".
"Today, he has unfortunately chosen to open his campaign with political attacks on Democrats who are fighting the Bush administration's Iraq policy."
Fighting? Policy?
It may be, perhaps, that this first (open) attack of the season has something to do with the rumor that there's an astonishing, completely unexpected announcement coming next week.

Hmmm
Bet that helps Edwards with both fundraising and attracting grassroots support.
Howard Wolfson is a freaking idiot
Why on earth would you go to reporters and say "You know all that nasty stuff John Edwards was saying last night that could have been veiled criticism of Hillary Clinton or 'moderate' Republicans or about a dozen other Democrats? Yes, in fact it was all aimed at my candidate. She is the one he was blasting for not living up to her words." I just don't get it.
Well this is one of the emptier
teapots and one of the more invented tempests. No reasonable person could claim that Edwards remarks were aimed at Hillary C. As I heard them, Edwards called on all Congress Members to use their power to curtail Bush's war. Further, with regard to the surge Hillary's criticism of Bush, at long last, has been exemplary.
