UPDATED : Daily Gotham under spam attack

[UPDATE by Liza Sabater : 6 October 2006]
Comments are back on.

Given the severity of the attacks (I deleted yesterday close to 5k spam comments) I may be forced to allow comments from registered users only. This does not mean you have to out yourself if you are an anonymous blogger or commenter --did you hear that Gatemouth?

It means you need to have a valid email address to fill out our registration form. That's it. Nothing more.

So to those who have not registered with us, I would strongly suggest you do so today.

To those who don't want to, could you please tell me WHY!?!

[5 October 2006]

This site is currently under attack by porn-pushing spambots; the above is a screenshot of my inbox (you get an alert email every time someone posts a comment on a thread you authored or commented on).

And just for the record, I don't like "amatuer porn". Doesn't do it for me.

Can you update your post?

I was going to make a separate entry but I think we should use this one to discuss what's the benefit of allowing anonymous commenters.

We are reaching a breaking point right now. Spammers found a security hole and I can't patch this until later tonight or tomorrow. Which means, I had to disable open comments and now have them go to a queue.

For people like Gatemouth, I'd like to know why is it they're not joining The Daily Gotham given they comment quite a lot here. Because, seriously, we can't have comments or trackbacks open anymore. The minute security holes are patched the minute spammers will find --or create-- another breach.

Sue Kelly, Foley, Veterans and Spam ...

Have you tried Akismet for spam?

Anyway, looks like Sue Kelly is toast and will shortly be receiving a subpoena to answer questions about her stint running the House Page program.

In the meantime, I'd like to share this:
How Sue Kelly treats Disabled Iraqi Vets

You have a cool looking site BTW.

Quotes 2

Mr. Harrison...is an attractive alternative to Mr. Fossella in his own right. Mr. Harrison has a presence in both sides of the district; he resides in Brooklyn, while his mother and sister live on Staten Island.

As chair of Community Board 10 in Brooklyn, he demonstrated leadership as he oversaw one of the city’s largest efforts to contain overdevelopment through rezoning. He has a good command of the issues, and a feel for the concerns of the district. Mr. Harrison surprised many with his passion and keen intelligence in a series of debates with Mr. Fossella. The distinctions could not be clearer. We endorse Mr. Harrison for Congress.
