Congressional Dems endorse McMahon
This can't be good news for Democratic candidate Steve Harrison, running in NY-13 to replace disgraced republican Vito Fossella. From The Hill:
Rep. Charles Rangel and other New York House Democrats endorsed City Councilor Mike McMahon on Wednesday in the race to replace outgoing Rep. Vito Fossella (R).
“This year, we have an historic opportunity to turn the last Republican congressional district in New York City Democratic,” Rangel and 11 other House Democrats from New York City said in a statement obtained by The Hill.
The DCCC is taking sides as well.
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), the chairman of the Democrats’ House campaign effort, will appear with McMahon at City Hall in Lower Manhattan on Saturday, according to a Democratic source.
To name some names:
The other Gotham Democrats to endorse include Gary Ackerman, Yvette Clarke, Joseph Crowley, Eliot Engel, Carolyn Maloney, Carolyn McCarthy, Gregory Meeks, Jerrold Nadler, José Serrano, Edolphus Towns and Anthony Weiner.
You don't get these eleven people onto the same page without quite a few phone calls, so it's logical to deduce that this endorsement has been a while in preparation. Combined with the Staten Island and Brooklyn machine endorsements, Harrison now realistically has a much steeper road to climb against McMahon.
What's irksome, of course, is that Mike McMahon recently made the news for voicing pro-war sentiments to Mike Long's little outfit. Also note that there's a name missing from the eleven above: Nydia Velasquez, Chair of the House Progressive Caucus.
We may just be in for a really unhelpful fistfight between anti-war Democrats and the party establishment. Not good.

McMahon Isn't pro-war
Show me one single recent statement he's made in support of Iraq.
There are none.
All the accounts of him being pro-war are second or third hand, at best.
Sure.
Here you go.
Well then
Don't you think it is about damned time he clarified his statement? Clearly he has in the past (recent past? distant past?) given the Conservative Party the impression he supports Bush's war. Currently that is the only information this gentleman who is running for Congress has provided the world. It is in his interest to clarify or he is allowing the Conservative Party to inform people on his views.
So, McMahon: just where DO you stand?
Of course no one can read Mr. McMahon' s heart on the war but
he has not answered my questions about it, he has not attended anti-war events, he has not voted in the NYC Council in favor of anti-war resolutions. The statement by the Conservative Party that Mr Mc.Mahon favors the war has not be denied by him. Instead, his brother, Tom McMahon, has denied it.
In an email to me Tom M. said "Micheal is very much against the war in Iraq for many reasons from how we got in to how it is being managed. That being said, he completely supports the men and women who are engaged in the fight on the ground and will do everything necessary to support their safety."
Is it possible that there are two McMahon-positions on the war in Iraq, one in favor articulated by Michael (To the Conservative Party) and one opposed given voice by Tom?
From Michael McMahon's silence of now long standing, I conclude he is attempting a stealth candidacy. So far as I can tell his reason for running is that he thinks he can win; club house politics at its best or worst. Why cannot anyone know what his positions are on key issues?
Why did Mr. McMahon support
Why did Mr. McMahon support the Mayor's Congestion Taxing, even though Staten Islanders opposed it? He's Pro-Life, not Pro-Choice. Although the House dosen't approve Supreme Court Justices, he will support morally those candidates who will want to overule Roe-Wade. This will put the Woman's right to choose issue , up front & personal. McMahon is actually a Republican in sheeps clothing.
Right and Wrong
He needs to answers the war question. An personally. NOW!
But it is quite clear that he's pro-choice. And adamant about it.
NEW YORK CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION
Isn't this the same group that supported Hillary Clinton? Look where that got her.
Additionally, I'm curious as to why Nydia Valesquez didn't endorse McMahon, anybody got an answer for that one?
McMahon has not gone on record on any policy. When will he?
Tell me, why was McMahon too afraid to run against Fossella in 2006 and again this year until Vito's "problems" surfaced.
Dan, this endorsement is party machine at its worse but wait until September 9th.
Creating their own reality
Once again today, a "mainstream" media outlet (in this case, WNYC) referred matter-of-factly to "Democratic candidate Michael McMahon". No recognition that anyone else is running. The SIDC is doing a very effective job of turning Harrison into a non-person. How do we fight this?
