DONATING TO STEVE HARRISON'S CAMPAIGN
This is great news and I'm looking forward to helping Steve defeat Fossella in 2008. FYI, Steve's Web Site will be www.steveharrisonforcongress.com and will probably go live when he formally announces tomorrow.
Harrison's In
It's good to see Steve Harrison giving it another go for '08. That said, it is going to take more than enthusiasm and blogging to get him over top. In short, it will be cold hard cash. Last time he was outraised 10 to 1 - that is $1.4 million to $138K. In real terms that is beyond enormous. As of June 30 the same old pattern shows signs of developing again. Steve has approximately $1,500 (that's not a typo) $1.5K to Vito's $200+K. Activists in New York trying to get credibility and a seat at the table with the big boys (and girls - HRC) need to stop going on these quests with Don Quixote for candidates who have no chance because they just can't get the message out. Take a look at Jimmy Dahroug on Long Island - it has taken him a couple of cycles (i.e., thumpings on the head with a sledge hammer to finally understand) and now he has $40K for a run in '08. Would love to see Steve make a great run at the empty suit that is Vito - however, we shouldn't get ourselves in a lather until we know the money's in the bank.
Ahem...
Let me just point out that had we listened to that kind of thinking, great candidates like John Hall, Jerry McNerney and Dave Loebsack wouldn't have won in 2006. Even the DCCC is starting to realize that you look for vulnerable Republicans and good Democratic candidates to oppose them and the money often will come. We have a very weak Republican, in a district where Democrats (despite people's impression) have a slight electoral edge, in a Presidential election year (favoring higher voter turnout), with an excellent, strong Democratic candidate. Letting that slip through our fingers using Daschle-style logic would be foolish. It can be done...but only if we work for it.
Um, no.
Fossella's in debt, here.
And as far as money is concerned, that can be raised, and I know people who do just that. I've raised craploads of it myself.
Money is important. But the money will be there.

Then you and others should make nice donations to Steve's campaign. You're right, blogging and enthusiam only go so far so help Steve defeat Vito with a donation directly to his campaign.
