Bloggers slam Clarke

Oh, Ben Smith is so going to love this.

I got handed a flyer yesterday from the Brooklyn Bloggers for Integrity in Government.* Their target? Yvette Clarke. Here's the text (I'll scan or photograph it tomorrow, right now, I am really, really tired):

Washington does not need more corruption and one more cheating liar

Yvette Clarke, candidate for Congress in the 11th Congressional District, recently confessed that she has been claiming to be a graduate of Oberlin College, but in fact, she does not have a college degree at all. She attended Medgar Evers College to obrain certain missing credits but failed a course there. Yvette Clarke has also been sued for $17,000 in student loans owed to the government. [...]

We don't need a Diplomagate in Washington

Ouch ouch ouch. After that comes a sampling of comments from Ben Smith's post on Yvette's rather unfortunate campaign slogan - which is, lest anyone not have guffawed about it yet, "Honest. Strong. For all of us".

*That's right, a paper flyer from some bloggers - too meta for words.

And now back to our

regularly scheduled program: the Times endorses Yassky today, surprise, surprise.

What a bunch of crap

That endorsement was locked up from Day One, thanks to the Times' relationship with Ratner.

Yassky Endorsement

Every one knew who would get that endorsement. it's a sad day when a known arrogant person could get the support from one paper when he refuse to speak with another paper (Amsterdam News) Yassky is clearly banking for a split vote with the blacks while trying to obtain some of those black votes. I'm sure an army will be out there on election day in force attempting to stop that.
We hear that Davis already has his own personal army of at least 300 volenteers to stop Yassky not including Sharpton's army as well as the other candidates. Sept 12 will be a day to remember Vote 4 Owens

Does evil tone of the discussion bother you?

It certainly bothers me. From the sidelines, I, personally, like Chris Owens. He has, however, been remarkably unable to raise money or gather politic support.

Do those of you who actively support one candidate or another in that race think the discussion has become so vituperative as to harm the process? I am certainly coming to that conclusion.

Discussed that ages ago

I predicted/discussed that here a long time ago. I have experienced first hand the nasty tactics of at least one member of the Clarke campaign. Yassky's people tend not to be so nasty, but more supercillious, which irritates the hell out of me and matches Yassky's own famous arrogance. But they are not terribly nasty.

Many of those who lead the meanness strike me as being either Yvette supporters or fitting a pattern that matches the old Norman machine, and hence possibly Andrews supporters. But I am not sure.

Mole, describe what you mean

Mole, describe what you mean by nasty tactics, be specific.

Sure

Three things, really.

First are the lies. That has been covered extensively. That includes things Yvette has said as well as things said on her behalf by supporters.

Second, one of her top staff memebers several times pressured me to write nasty articles about Yassky. I opted not to. The same individual threatened another blogger, Gatemouth. Later he also attacked me online. That is one individual, but he was high up in the CLarke campaign. I THINK he is no longer with her campaign.

Third, and most vaguely, I notice that each time someone posts something negative about Yvette (here or elsewhere) there is a slew of very similar, very nasty comments about whoever wrote the article. Rock Hackshaw, for example, got that kind of treatment. The comments are about as nasty as can come and usually try to discredit other candidates, but present no facts, merely sound bites. These appear mostly in diaries about Yvette, hence my suspicion they are from her campaign (and they match the kind of nastiness the guy in point 2 above pressured me to do). However, I also think they match a pattern that the old Clarence Norman machine used to do, so MAYBE is from the Andrews campaign. However, since they are usually in defense of Yvette, I still think they originate from her people.

Does that clarify?

How were you threatened?

Back in the day, when I was writing a political column, I used to get those oh-so helpful whispers from the staffs of electeds--helpful in that it was always dirt about candidates their bosses wanted broken. If the murmurings were newsworthy I used them. (For example, Clarke's "I got a degree from Oberlin/ I got a degree from Medger Evers/ No, I didn't do that, either" is newsworthy. A good story, and it speaks volumes about La Yvette. The "guess who she liaised with in 2001?" is bogus, because it does not connote anything that isn't extracurricular, as you said. The story is just raw meat for the blue noses, and I wouldn't have used it.) And I got lots of anonymous complaints, including charges I was sitting on legit news, along with angry calls, noisy hang-ups and some inarticulate and even deranged cursing. But in all that time I was never "threatened," as such. So question: what happened to you, exactly? Details, details. Because "F-you" is not a threat. "I know where you live" is.

Please re-read my comment

I refer to threats against another blogger named Gatemouth who writes for Room Eight and with whom I seldom agree. He wrote about it fairly extensively and stopped writing for Room Eight for a bit afterwards. It's his story, not mine, but he wrote about it publically.

I was merely pressured by the same individual WHILE he was at an event AS a representative of Yvette. He in no way threatened me and if I implied otherwise it was not intended. I found his suggestions distasteful because he was essentially telling me what to write and to smear Yassky. Later someone who was expressing that individual's exact rather unique view of DRE machines attacked me in comments to a diary I wrote supporting PB/OS. He did not threaten. He verbally attacked. I suspect it was him and when I fingered him he stopped commenting.

So I have had unpleasant encounters with him, but he was never threatening and originally saw me as an ally. Gatemouth is the one who was threatened and responded very angrily and publically on Room Eight.

Mole, you said you were

Mole, you said you were threatened viciously. Do you remember or not.

mole333's picture

No...I didn't.

You are either not reading carefully or you are being intentionally disingenuous. Go back and read more carefully. I never used the word "viciously" nor did I ever say that I was threatened. If you can't keep up then drop out. I already explained this in great detail the last time you made this kind of comment. Stop, go back and reread.

What happened to Rock. Are

What happened to Rock. Are you talking about when some one called him a bigot.

Rock?

What are you talking about??? Seriously. Go back and read the whole discussion. No one mentioned Rock in this thread. Do you mean Gatemouth? That's his story but it was discussed extensively on Room Eight. Do some research.
