Bill de Blasio's mother passes

From an email by Bill de Blasio:

Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, my mother, Maria de Blasio Wilhelm passed away earlier this week. She would have been 90 years old in May. She was fighting up until the end and I was able to be there with her when she passed.

Thank you for all the support you all have given over the last few weeks. She always appreciated the commitment of people like you to helping others. She did a lot of that in her own life, and always wished she had done more.

Thank you again for your support during this difficult time for my family.

--- Bill

Our condolences to the Councilman and his family.

My condolences to Bill

My condolences to Bill and his family.

I regret making yet another caustic remark about Bill on this tragic day in the Lavelle obituary. I was using Bill's potential challenge to Steve as an example of Lavelle's loyalty and its unfortunate that his mother passed on today as well.

I finally met Bill at a Brooklyn Janele Hyer-Spencer fundraiser this spring. I apologized to him profusely for everything I said about him in the Daily News, Roll Call and the Brooklyn weeklies and elsewhere during his flirtation with running for the 13th district seat. He seemed to understand that this was just politics.

New York's poor have no greater advocate than Bill. And I truly admire him for that.

Speaking of advocates I think Bill would make a fantastic Public Advocate and should seek this unique to NYC office in 09. The entire City would benefit from his passion, compassion and creativity. However, he should not run for the 13th Congressional district seat.

Bill De Blasio

Bill is a good guy. I differ with him on several issues and probably would not support him in the primary for Public Advocate. Of course that race will be another very crowded one, so I suspect I will like other candidates more in the primary. BUT, had some discussions with him during the CD-11 race and of all the Clarke supporters I verbally sparred with, he was the most polite and reasonable. May differ with him politically, but find him a good guy overall.
