... and a proud member for 3 years 34 weeks Spokes person, for UNO (United Neighbors Organization) a grass roots housing advocacy group in Williamsburg/Greenpoint Brooklyn, fighting for affordable (low to moderate income) housing and the displacement of tenants. This past year we helped alone with other housing advocacy groups, in the passage of section 421Aa. As a result of the rezoning throughout the city, in order to get a tax break, developers must give back to the community 30 % of units toward affordable housing. Another piece of housing legislation, in which our group was instrumental helping get passed, through various trips to Albany, demonstrations and hundreds of signatures, just in our area, was Into 627a, The Tenants Anti harassment Law. It was unanimously passed by the city council. Now tenants can take the landlord/owner, to court on grounds of harassment.
